On Berlin’s Friedrichstraße, Zimmer Biomet has created an Innovation Hub that is far more than a traditional showroom. The interior design, developed by UP GREAT, provides space for training sessions, product presentations, consultations and discussions. Medical innovations are not merely displayed here, but brought to life.
The open-plan layout connects different functional areas into a cohesive environment. Workstations, meeting zones and presentation areas flow seamlessly into one another. The design creates an atmosphere that promotes concentration whilst also encouraging dialogue.
In collaboration with Ana Gilich from the office fit-out firm Lindemann, a lighting concept was developed that complements the open-plan layout and caters to the Innovation Hub’s various functions. The lighting aids wayfinding, structures work and presentation areas, and contributes to a calm, focused atmosphere. The lighting deliberately takes a back seat to the content, directing the focus towards communication, knowledge transfer and innovation.
This approach is also reflected in the words of Ana Gilich: “Zimmer Biomet’s Hub on Friedrichstraße brings the company’s identity to life in a physical space and creates a framework in which innovation becomes visible and new ways of thinking can emerge.”
Matric SX floor lamps from Lightnet are used at the workstations. Their direct-indirect light distribution ensures uniform illumination of the work surfaces and supports visual tasks whilst providing high visual comfort. At the same time, the indirect light component contributes to a pleasant ambient brightness and enhances the open feel of the interior design.
In the exhibition and presentation area, the Grand Lucille S9 floor lamp in Zimmer Biomet Blue adds a striking design accent. For this project, the luminaire was manufactured in a bespoke RAL colour, allowing it to blend seamlessly into the interior’s colour scheme. Its distinctive shape creates a defining focal point within the space and underlines the Innovation Hub’s commitment to harmonising function and design.
The combination of functional workplace lighting and architectural lighting design creates an environment that meets both the requirements of modern working and the standards of an international medical technology company.
Many thanks to everyone involved in the project for their trust and cooperation
