It is the first of its kind: Håndværkskollegiet in Horsens, Denmark, is a craft college that harmonises traditional materials with contemporary architecture. The campus comprises six buildings with workshops, living areas and administration.
Designed by the architectural firms Cubo Arkitekter and Danø Arkitektur, the college serves as a living showcase of Danish craftsmanship in architecture and materiality. The use of honest, robust and natural building materials such as recycled brick and exposed wooden structures gives the building a dignified patina and a lasting presence.
The lighting designed by our partner Luminex highlights these materials. The spotlights from our Midpoint series allow the structure to ‘speak’: they create a targeted emphasis on texture, allowing the naturalness to unfold its effect to the fullest. The Midpoint LED spotlight system impresses with its clear geometry and precise workmanship. It can be used flexibly and supports a wide range of architectural concepts.
Håndværkskollegiet has been awarded DGNB Gold and the rarely awarded DGNB Diamond – recognition for sustainability and architectural quality. The project also received the MIPIM Award 2025 in the category ‘Best Cultural, Sports & Education Project’ and the ‘Building of the Year 2024’ award.
