Lighting as a continuation of architectural order Visana headquarters in Bern

As one of Switzerland’s largest health and accident insurance companies, Visana serves over 800,000 policyholders as well as numerous companies and institutions. Its headquarters in Bern offer a modern office environment for around 900 employees across approximately 11,000 square metres.

The building follows a clear, purist design concept with open-plan structures, clearly defined functional areas and material-conscious interior design. Based on this, our partner Mabalux developed a lighting concept that precisely combines functional requirements, spatial order and materiality, and integrates the lighting design into the overall architectural concept.

In the reception area, large-format Basic A3 surface-mounted luminaires emphasise the horizontal spatial structure. In combination with minimalist furnishings, warm wood surfaces and a calm colour scheme, this creates a reception area with a clear architectural language.

In the open-plan work areas, our Basic free-standing luminaires provide uniform, glare-free workplace lighting. Their direct-indirect light creates visual calm and supports focused work in an open environment. In the adjoining communication zones, our Beam Me Up-P3 pendant luminaires set targeted lighting accents.

In the cafeteria, lighting also supports the spatial organisation. Our Basic A3 surface-mounted luminaires are installed flush within the acoustically effective ceiling grid and deliver soft, uniform general illumination. Our Basic-P3 pendant luminaires complement this by defining the seating areas with directional light and creating quiet, atmospheric islands for informal conversations and breaks.
