Light as a serene setting – Kiki Niesten, Maastricht

The Kiki Niesten project in Maastricht is a striking example of how precise lighting design in retail spaces can seamlessly integrate architecture, interior design, and brand presentation into a cohesive whole—minimalist, clear, and atmospherically effective.
In Maastricht’s exclusive Stokstraat district, Kiki Niesten presents itself as a curated space for high-end fashion, where architecture, interior design, and lighting merge into a holistic brand environment. The lighting concept by Grease Lighting and interior designer Maurice Mentjens consistently supports this approach: open, clear, and accessible. Through close collaboration, a space was created that is deliberately minimalist yet feels spacious and inviting.
The goal of the lighting design was to emphasize the interior’s organic design language without dominating it. The light was intended to blend in seamlessly, reveal structures, and create a calm atmosphere. In close coordination with all parties involved—including Elektro Gorissen Maastricht and Grease Lighting Maastricht—a finely tuned concept was developed that achieves precisely this balance.
The linear recessed luminaire Lightnet Liquid Line AX subtly structures the open space and follows the architecture without interrupting it. The result is a calm grid of light that provides orientation while gently highlighting materials such as natural stone and textile surfaces. In this way, the Liquid Line AX becomes an integral part of the architectural design.
The Ringo Star GX pendant luminaire sets targeted accents and creates a deliberate contrast to the linear lighting structure. At various points, it highlights key zones and sightlines, lending a sense of lightness to the spatial composition. The interplay between Liquid Line AX and Ringo Star creates a balance of structure and focus, tranquility and precision.
In close consultation with the interior designer, the Liquid Line and Ringo Star products were selected for their versatile shapes and sizes. For the lighting designer, the project’s greatest achievement was that the final result fully reflects the original design intent thanks to the close collaboration of all involved.
The curated fashion selection at Kiki Niesten shapes the space just as much as the architecture and lighting. International high-end labels are presented in a deliberately minimalist setting that highlights the individuality of each collection. The lighting concept supports this curatorial approach by precisely showcasing materials, colors, and silhouettes and giving them room to stand out.
