Lighting as an extension of architectural structure Visana Head Office in Bern

As one of Switzerland’s largest health and accident insurance companies, Visana serves over 800,000 policyholders as well as numerous companies and institutions. Its headquarters in Bern offer a modern office environment for around 900 employees across approximately 11,000 square meters.

The building follows a clear, purist design concept with open-plan structures, clearly defined functional areas, and material-conscious interior design. Building on this, our partner Mabalux developed a lighting concept that precisely combines functional requirements, spatial organization, and materiality—integrating lighting seamlessly into the overall architectural concept.

In the reception area, large-format Basic A3 surface-mounted luminaires emphasize the horizontal structure of the space. Combined with minimalist furnishings, warm wood surfaces, and a calm color scheme, they create a reception area with a clear architectural language.

In the open-plan work areas, our Basic free-standing luminaires provide uniform, glare-free workplace lighting. Their direct-indirect light creates visual calm and supports focused work in an open environment. In the adjacent communication zones, our Beam Me Up-P3 pendant luminaires add targeted lighting accents.

In the cafeteria, lighting also supports spatial organization. Our Basic A3 surface-mounted luminaires are installed flush within the acoustically effective ceiling grid and deliver soft, uniform general illumination. Our Basic-P3 pendant luminaires complement this by defining the seating areas with directional light and creating quiet, atmospheric islands for informal conversations and breaks.
