When visiting an orthodontist, lighting is probably not the first thing that comes to mind. The treatment chair, the medical equipment, or the people welcoming you are likely to attract more attention. Yet lighting has a significant influence on how we perceive these spaces. It needs to support precise work while helping patients feel comfortable.
At Dr. Hartmann’s orthodontic practice in Margetshöchheim, these requirements meet a welcoming interior design. Light-colored walls, natural wood surfaces, and subtle shades of gray define the treatment rooms. Occasional green accents, framed animal illustrations, and thoughtful details bring a more personal touch to the clinical setting.
Lighting design and installation were carried out by Lichtagentur Würzburg. Circular Basic X1 surface-mounted luminaires from Lightnet were selected for the project, their understated design fitting naturally into the different spaces. Their evenly illuminated surfaces create a calm ceiling appearance, while the indirect light component gently brightens the ceiling.
In the treatment rooms, good visibility and lighting that meets the relevant standards are essential. Basic X1 provides general ambient lighting, complementing the dedicated medical lights directed at the treatment area. This allows the functional requirements of the practice to work comfortably alongside a restrained design approach.
Basic X1 also appears as a recurring element in the waiting area. Surrounded by light-colored walls, wood, and playful details, the luminaires blend discreetly into the interior. Their circular shape adds soft accents to the ceiling, while their informal arrangement picks up on the playful character of the space and gives the room a lighter feel.
The project demonstrates the difference that carefully considered lighting design can make, particularly in healthcare environments. Different activities call for different lighting conditions. With Basic X1, a consistent design language runs throughout the practice, supporting everyday activities while allowing the interior architecture to retain its own character.
