A building that is open and inviting on all sides: this is how the new town hall in the Westphalian town of Delbrück presents itself. The timeless clinker brick architecture has no rear side and thus embodies the functions of a town hall – a place of encounter and representation. Architect Paul Alhäuser describes the concept as follows: “From the outset, we pursued the vision of a ‘town hall in the park’ that would radiate communication in different directions. The new building is intended to be a place that facilitates open interaction between citizens, where people meet as a matter of course.”
The polygonal floor plan forms a striking architectural feature that is continued inside. The Scharkon team were responsible for the lighting design and used light to create a special visual axis in the atrium. Pendant luminaires from our Ringo Star series hang here, spanning several floors. The lighting installation welcomes visitors with its elegant purism and, with its circular shape, creates an exciting contrast to the stringent lines of the room's edges.
