Our sustainability partnership 2024

Sustainability is in our DNA - every step of our work is designed to have as little impact on the environment as possible. In addition, we will participate in a project that protects nature every year in the future - which projects these will be is decided by a different Lightnet location each year.

Lightnet Germany submitted proposals for the 2024 project and voted: With our donation of 10,000 € we will support the "SeeKuh" of the NGO One Earth One Ocean One Earth – One Ocean e. V. (oneearth-oneocean.com), which fishes ghost nets from the Baltic Sea.

We are particularly pleased that this project was submitted and selected by the majority of employees at Lightnet's headquarters in Germany, as we have been using plastic-free packaging for many years as part of our sustainability strategy and through this cooperation can now contribute to freeing the Baltic Sea from plastic waste and ghost nets.

Ghost nets are lost or abandoned fishing nets and lines often made of nylon, polyester or polyethylene. It is estimated that ghost nets are responsible for about 10 percent of the world's plastic waste in the oceans. Not only are they a death trap for marine mammals, fish, seabirds and molluscs, but over time they also break down into microplastics as well as plasticisers or impregnating agents. In addition, toxins are deposited on the plastic particles, which have a significant impact on marine ecosystems and can eventually enter the human food chain.

We will keep you informed about the activities of the "SeeKuh" from spring 2024.

We would like to thank One Earth One Ocean for the already great cooperation and look forward to the collaboration!
